Minlaton is a charming rural township nestled in the heart of South Australia's Yorke Peninsula. Known as the "Barley Capital of the World," it serves as a vital service hub for the surrounding farming communities.
With its wide main street, friendly locals, and rich aviation history highlighted by WWI flying ace Harry Butler the town blends heritage with a relaxed country lifestyle. Let's Get Started Located in the heart of South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula, Minlaton is a charming country town that punches well above its weight when…...
I built this website to bring together some of the town’s organisations, sporting groups, and local businesses in one place.
Community matters, and I believe it's important to keep people connected and informed. As a web developer, I saw a real need for something like this. Not long ago, I found myself trying to pause a social media video at just the right moment to catch an email address for a local group. That’s when I realised there had to be a better way. I had the tools to make it happen so I did.
Now, to be upfront, this isn’t purely a passion project. I also use this platform to help direct traffic to some of the other websites I’ve built. You’ll see a few small ads throughout the site, clearly marked as local sponsors. I think its better to give the traffic to local business than Google ads.
I also understand that many businesses and organisations in the region don’t have a website, and might not be ready to invest in one. If that sounds like you, but you'd still like a simple page with your own logo and branding, I can help with that too.
And yes, I know this is starting to sound a bit like a blog but I appreciate you reading this far.
Scope is super important to prevent mission creep.
Lets define Minlaton as the suburb of Minlaton and all the surrounding rural suburbs that aren't major service towns.
The gaol is to at least list the organisations and business' in this region. If you would like to be listed just get in contact.
Forums - A small forum as a bit of extra information section. With a strong intention away from rant and rave.
I have a bit of an idea regarding a service called cardav. A criminally underrated service. The idea being that there is a local directory of businesses where you subscribe to the service and it updates changes without the end user input.
Just to expand on this point a little - in practice you would subscribe to the service in your phone settings. All the numbers to all the businesses, addresses and emails would populate in your phone. As they naturally change over time so your phone querys the server and they update also. Unsubscribe from the service and they disappear again.
I recently had some extra time while feeling a bit under the weather and built a blog system for the website. I'd love for others to contribute as well! If you have an interest in hobbies and activities that make Minlaton unique. Such as horse culture, conservation, farming, etc please consider writing and contributing.
