YorKON Brings Gaming Culture to Minlaton Town Hall
5th May, 2026
The Minlaton Town Hall was buzzing across two days in April as YorKON, the Yorke Peninsula Council's free gaming convention, returned for another year during the school holidays. By all accounts it was one of the biggest and busiest editions yet, with families, kids, teens, and gaming enthusiasts filling the hall from open to close on both days.
The program covered a lot of ground. Arcade machines, modern and retro video game consoles, tabletop board games, card collecting, comic books, and Dungeons and Dragons all had dedicated spaces, and there was no shortage of people at each of them. A cardboard cutout and painting station proved a hit with younger visitors, giving them something creative and tangible to take home alongside the gaming action. The variety is part of what makes YorKON work so well for a town like Minlaton, there really is something for every age and every kind of enthusiast.
A new addition to this year's lineup was a local game developer showcase, with Wallaroo-based indie developer Orlando Mee presenting his Screen Australia supported title Yakshini Lokam. It was the first time a local developer had featured at YorKON and it added a genuinely exciting dimension to the event, giving the Yorke Peninsula community a chance to see homegrown creative work up close.
YorKON is a free event run by Yorke Peninsula Council and has become a firm fixture on the Minlaton community calendar. Tickets are free but must be booked in advance through Humanitix. Keep an eye on the Yorke Peninsula Council website for next year's dates.
