One Nation Claims Narungga in Close Race
20th Mar, 2026
The Yorke Peninsula's state electorate of Narungga has a new representative following the South Australian election held on 21 March 2026 and the result was about as close as it gets.
One Nation's Chantelle Thomas claimed victory over Liberal candidate Tania Stock by just 58 votes after a recount, making Narungga one of One Nation's four seats won statewide.
Long-serving local MP Fraser Ellis, who had held the seat since 2018, was defeated. Ellis conceded defeat after capturing 17.6% of first preference votes, a swing against him of 12.9%.
The booths across Narungga that recorded the highest One Nation votes were in Moonta and Balaklava.
The result was the last seat called in the state, with the Electoral Commission conducting a recount due to the narrow margin.
Statewide, Labor was elected to a second four-year term under Premier Peter Malinauskas in a landslide, recording its greatest ever victory in terms of seats won.
